From the Video Vault: Swindon vs Bristol City

A local derby arrives this weekend with Bristol City visiting the County Ground. Ah… City, a club with such great history and honours… well… their only major honour is the FAW Welsh Cup in 1934; beating another very Welsh team, Tranmere Rovers in the replay. So enough of that, let’s relive some STFC vs City video highlights of encounters at the County Ground…

5th December 1981 – Hooligans clash on the terraces – causing the match to be held up for 18 minutes – on the pitch, the Division Three relegation threatened local rivals play out a goalless draw.

24th January 1984 – With Town in the middle of a goalkeeping crisis, Ian Andrews is drafted in on loan to make his debut against Bristol City – but though Jimmy Quinn gives Swindon the lead, they are pegged back late on by a Glyn Riley strike to finish 1-1.

9th May 1987 – With the Town’s play-off place already secured, they travelled to Ashton Gate with little to play for – except of course, preventing their old rivals from reaching the play-off as well! (who cares this isn’t at the CG…)

18th August 1987 – A Jimmy Quinn hat-trick gives the Town a commanding lead over their local rivals in this Littlewoods Cup First Round tie.

4th February 1992 – The second derby win in a week, the Town beat City 2-0.

24th March 1993 – A debut goal from Brian Marwood and a Paul Bodin penalty result in a 2-1 win for the Town.

10th April 2004 – A 1-1 draw, but the greatest goal ever scored in this fixture by Rory Fallon…

11th November 2005 – Full coverage of Iffy Onoura’s first 3 points as manager with a 2-1 win

21st September 2013 – Nile Ranger’s late winner ultimately settled a strikingly open contest in Wiltshire in favour of the home side 3-2.
