Match Preview: Swindon Town vs Bristol City

Form Guide…

12th placed Swindon Town were defeated three goals to two at Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend. That defeat was Town’s first in five games. Town have eight points.

As hosts, Swindon are unbeaten in 2013/14. In three League One games at the County Ground Town have beaten Stevenage and Crewe and drawn 2-2 with Gillingham. This seven points from nine puts Swindon in 4th place in the League One hosts form guide.

Bristol City are 21st after seven games with a miserable return of four points for a side that was relegated from the Championship in May.

City have yet to win a League One game this season. All of their four points have been won following draws with Bradford City, MK Dons, Gillingham and Shrewsbury. All those draws were score-draws. As the away side, City have drawn their two previous outings.

Swindon-Town-FC.co.uk Head-to-Head…

In all League, FA Cup and Football League competitions, Town have faced Bristol City on 99 occasions, winning 27, drawing 31 and defeated 41 times; scoring 124 and conceding 156.

At the County Ground, Swindon have a record of 20 wins, 17 draws and 12 defeats, scoring 67 and conceding 54.

Town are without a defeat against City in their previous seven meetings since losing two goals to one at Ashton Gate in October 2003.

Swindon have not been beaten in their five previous meetings as hosts. City last won here by two goals to one in January 2002 with goals from Matt Hill and Lee Peacock.

City have only won twice in ten visits to the County Ground.

The Stats…

2013.09.21 Stats

Its early days yet, but Swindon have been superb from long-range this season. 36% of goals have been scored from distance.

Swindon have yet to win a League One game this season when conceding first, therefore Town preferably need to stamp their early authority on the game with a goal in the opening 15 minutes.

Importantly, City have lost all their three games and drawn a further two when conceding first. City are yet to be defeated when scoring first.

In Town’s three games as hosts they hit an average of 13.3 shots per game, of which 50% have been on target, so it’s time to up that percentage and watch the free-flowing football yield results.

Prediction

City will score, but Town have more firepower and a good record over the Bristol side in recent years. City are on the slide, so it’s a 2-1 win for the hosts.

Come on You Reds!

  • I know it’s hard to watch the match and sing at the same time but the 12th man lifts the game, it always does, the boys always raise their game. It was deathly quiet at MK Dons but a good enough gate. Get behind the boys, sing your hearts out and watch a blooming good win
