2010 STFC Review: September
Following the win at Southampton, September yielded better performances and all important wins as Town put their season back on some sort of the right track.
First up came a tricky trip to Cumbria to face Carlisle, where Town came away with a credible goalless draw. The result sent Town to the bottom of the league…who would have suspected that only a few months ago?
A week later Town finally secured their first league win of the season at home to Southampton. This was typical Town raising their game against supposed higher opposition only to falter when facing newly promoted sides. The match was marred by a shoulder injury to Charlie Austin that would leave him sidelined for several weeks. The question post match was could Town progress without their talisman striker?
Without Austin, Town managed to make it 3 wins in a row with subsequent victories at Walsall and then at home to Huddersfield. Both matches I missed as I was a little busy getting married and on honeymoon in Marrakech.
I returned in time for the Plymouth Argyle match, anticipating another win to push Town closer to 6th. A highly entertaining game saw Town fight back from 2-0 down only to throw it all away in injury time as a pinpoint Craig Noone cross was met by Bradley Wright-Phillips.
So were the 3 victories a false dawn?
