Paynter’s Contract

Earlier today Danny Wilson revealed Bill Paynter had yet to sign a new contract with Town, which would extend his stay beyond June 2010. With Paynter finding his scoring boots and hitting 19 league goals so far this season, there has been much recent speculation about his future. Apparently Town offered Paynter a new contract in early January, but the original

7 Team Race?

Town have won 6 points against Carlisle and Stockport to further cement our play-off position. It’s a sign of the times and new found quality that we won these games despite not playing at their best. Both games were the proverbial “banana skins” against lower placed teams, where in previous seasons, Town would have probably dropped points. With MK Dons

After reading this article today I can’t help feeling this will distort many fan’s view of the true financial picture of the club. Specifically this response from Wilson: We have to be self-sufficient to a certain degree if we can, and that’s what we are trying to do now. The board have helped get the debt out of the club

But what I’m more

Charlton – 2 points dropped (again)

Whilst the talk this morning is of a lack of fitness against Charlton, which resulted in Town surrendering their single goal lead on Staurday.  There was more to this defeat than fitness, exposing an awful lot about Wilson and the squad. Austin looked very tired and despite working hard as usual, couldn’t be his typical attacking threat.  Wilson was too late to substitute

Paynter takes Player of the Month

Well done to Billy Paynter who fully deserves winning the League One Player of the Month Award for January. 5 goals in 4 games is a terrific return for Paynter who struggled for form in the early part of the season. Successful penalties make up a significant part of Paynter’s 17 goals in all competitions this season.  These have been such

Curse of the Manager of the Month?

With Danny Wilson today being nominated for the January League One Manager of the Month, it is often said that winning this award often sees the manager loosing the next match and / or suffering a dip in team form. Is the suspected curse active this season? Phil Parkinson (Charlton Athletic) won the August award.  Charlton went unbeaten in September

January Transfer Window

In the Radio Wiltshire phone-in this evening, Danny Wilson commented on the lack of transfer activity at Town during the January transfer window. Only Vincent Pericard has signed, with Danny Ward, Simon Ferry and Alan Sheehan’s loans extended to the end of the season. Wilson confirmed he couldn’t bring in a “quality of player” and so didn’t make a hasty move

Peacock joins Grimsby

Lee Peacock has today signed for Grimsby Town.  The League Two side currently sit in 23rd place with 19 points, 6 points adrift of Cheltenham and perhaps a certainty for Conference football next season along-with Darlington. The move doesn’t come as a surprise.  Peacock has not been able to force his way back into the first team after some lengthy spells out with injuries
