Not such a Good Friday

Former BBC Wiltshire commentator Vic Morgan writes his latest blog for TheWashbag.com…
The better team won didn’t it..?
Wigan came to Swindon and deservedly took the points. To be honest they’re the best team I’ve seen at the County Ground this season and I’ll be amazed if they’re not back in the Championship next term.
As for Swindon? Well six minutes after half time I feared total humiliation, but to be fair to the Town that didn’t happen.
If the defeat wasn’t enough, it was made worse by the sending off of skipper Nathan Thompson. To loose the captain for three games is, without a doubt, a big blow. How big a blow we’ll see on Monday when we go to Scunthorpe. A 4-1 home defeat and a sending off, not the best way to start Easter.
What does this mean for the season? There was much talk recently of a possible extended campaign. That looks unlikely now and so it’ll be a case of seeing how high we can finish. Of course we still need a couple of points to be able to totally relax. A win Monday would sort that out, hopefully.
Don’t know what your opinion of the 5.30 kick off was. I have to say I wasn’t impressed. It kind of broke up the day too much for me. Lots of hanging around and then not much of the day left afterwards. Yes I know it’s my fault for living in Devon, but you know what I mean.
You might have thought it was a good idea and that’s fine but it’s another example of TV not only fixing their own schedules but scheduling a supporters life. Still money in the bank for the football club is always a welcome boost I guess.
Last weekend saw a draw at Coventry in front of two and a half thousand Town fans. It wasn’t the greatest of games but a decent point. It was a match of few chances and to be honest nil nil was about right. Nice to see Ty Belford get a chance at the Ricoh and his save at the end was vital. A clean sheet is always something defenders and a goalkeeper treasure. Didn’t work out against Wigan, but can’t win em all!
Scunthorpe on Easter Monday isn’t the easiest of trips. An early start and a long journey. Still it has to be done and, as I said earlier, hopefully the win which takes us past the points total to pretty much guarantee safety. I know there are still lots of games to go, but the sooner the better. Hope to see you there.
Keep it loud keep it proud keep it SWINDON!
