Team Form:

Swindon Town

Last Time We Met:

4th October 2011 – Exeter City 1 (D.Nardiello 72′) Swindon Town 2 (J.Jervis 18′, 35′)

Famous Meeting:

31 January 1982 – Division Three – Swindon Town 3 (P.Rideout 41′, R.Carter 72′, K.Baddeley 89′) Exeter City 2 (M.Rogers 39′, D.Pullar 73′)

An experiment with Sunday football sees a slight increase in matchday attendance – and the 5,656 crowd goes home happy, a last minute winner from Kevin Baddeley sealing a 3-2 victory – moving Town away from the relegation zone.

Opposition Pre-Match Quote:

Speaking to the Western Morning News, Exeter City winger David Wheeler is confident the Grecians can upset hosts Swindon Town…

“I think we have got a good mixture as the midfield three we had against Yeovil are some of the best footballers in the league. To allow them to play we need to stretch the game and by running in behind we can do that. We can be effective by playing that long pass and then, if the defence drops back, that offers more space for the midfielders and they can play the sorter passes in front.”

Club Connections:

Of the side that won promotion to the Premiership in 1993, two players originally came to the County Ground from Exeter – Lou Macari signed Martin Ling from the Grecians in 1986 for a fee of £25,000, though he played just twice before being sold to Southend, then bought back by Glenn Hoddle in 1991, and Town hero Shaun Taylor was Exeter’s player of the year before Hoddle paid £200,000 for his services in the same year.

Decent Bet:

If you bet with Saturday’s tip for Both Teams to Score, you’ll be up.

I suspect, like Saturday, Swindon could start slow and, as their opponents tire, push onto be dominant second half – so I’m taking 10/3 with Betfair for the Half Time / Full Time for a ‘Draw / Swindon’.

Exeter City Facts:

Essential facts about our opponents to impress your mates with…

  • Exeter have only won 6 of 49 games played in the League Cup
  • The Grecians have only won once away from home
