Last Time We Met:

24th February 2015 – Swindon Town 2 (M.Luongo 15′, 34′) Bradford City 1 (B.Clarke 54′)

Famous Meeting:

In 1968/69, Bradford City nearly put an end to the Town’s run in the League Cup early on – when they took a two goal lead within the first 18 minutes of the Second Round replay at Swindon. Goals from Jack Smith and a Don Rogers penalty sent the teams in level at half-time, before Smart and Noble put the game beyond doubt – a late consolation by City ending the scoring at 4-3. As you know Town went on to win at Wembley.

Opposition Pre-Match Quote:

Bradford manager Phil Parkinson comments on the frustrations of strengthening the squad this summer:

“We are slowly getting there.
For a lot of the managers I have spoken to recently, they have all said that they have found it difficult to get deals done. For various reasons, it has been harder than ever really this summer. Our squad is taking shape but we are not there yet.
The quality of the squad – our first eleven and the bench – is good but we need to add to the numbers. We need more depth to the squad and that is what we are working towards.”

Club Connections:

There have only been 11 transfers between the two clubs.

Our most famous departure to Bradford was Peter Downsborough, initially on loan, then joining the Bantams on a free transfer in January 1974 following a dispute – after making 320 league and cup appearances for Swindon, including the 1969 League Cup final.

Decent Bet:

Both Teams to Score (8/11 with Bet365 and 3/4 with Betfiar) – Swindon have conceded in 7 of 8 pre-season friendlies for the first team, plus they finished the 2014/15 season conceding in each of the last 9 games (including the play-offs). In the fixtures at the end of the 2014/15 season, Town scored at least one goal as hosts for 9 successive games.

Bradford Facts:

Essential facts about our opponents to impress your mates with…

  • Bradford City won the 1911 FA Cup Final. The first game took place on 22nd April, 1911 and ended up a 0-0 draw. In the replay four days later Bradford won 1-0 to win the cup for their only time in the 20th century.
  • When Bradford were last in the Premier League in the 2000/01 season they won 5 games with a points return of 28 from 38 games.
