Match Preview: Swindon Town vs Hartlepool United

Form Guide…

3rd placed Swindon are unbeaten in ten League One matches. At the County Ground, Town have won the previous four games, without conceding and scoring 16 goals.

Hartlepool United are rooted to the basement of the division, two points adrift of Portsmouth and ten points from safety. ‘Pool have started to come into some decent form of late, winning their previous two games and unbeaten in three matches on their travels. Head-to-Head…

In all League, FA Cup and Football League competitions, Town have faced Hartlepool United on 28 occasions, winning 11, drawing 11 and defeated 6 times; scoring 37 and conceding 30.

At the County Ground, Swindon have a record of 7 wins, 4 draws and 3 defeats, scoring 23 and conceding 14.

Swindon are unbeaten in their previous four games with Hartlepool, however the last three have been draws.

At the County Ground, Swindon are without a win over Hartlepool in three games. The last victory came in December 2007 – while Town were awaiting Andrew Fitton’s takeover *spooky* – with a 2-1 win courtesy of goals from Simon Cox and Barry Corr.

R = rank: The ranking shown for each measure indicates the efficiency of the sides against the rest of the division as either hosts or the away side | 1 equals the best and 24 is the worst |

Town are now ranked 2nd most efficient hosts, and remain strongest in defence as hosts with a ranking of 1st in League One, compared to 4th most efficient in attack.

Hartlepool’s inefficiencies which has result in their awful season are there for all to see. The only area in which the statistics show any sort of respectability is the save rate percentage of 78%, ranked 9th. However, that doesn’t take into account the very high tally of shots against.

SCORED 1-15 16-30 31-45 45+ 46-60 61-75 76-90 90+
STFC (as hosts) 4  7 5 0 1 6 4 1
Pool (away) 3  3 0 0 4 2 1 1

With equal amounts of goals in the first and second halves, Swindon just score when we want at the County Ground…

CONCEDED 1-15 16-30 31-45 45+ 46-60 61-75 76-90 90+
STFC (as hosts) 2 0 2 0 3 1 0 0
Pool (away) 2 8 3 1 4 5 3 2

I haven’t added anything to the Swindon columns for some months now.

Why Hartlepool cave in and concede plenty between 16-30 minutes I don’t know… Any ‘Pool fans?

My prediction…

The omens are there. Our last victory over Hartlepool at the County Ground was during a period of instability pending a takeover so let’s have more of the same this Saturday…

3-0 victory to Swindon.

Come on You Reds!
