Match Preview: Crawley vs Swindon Town

Form Guide…

3rd placed Swindon are undefeated in eight matches in a run that has included 5 wins, 3 draws, 20 goals and 2 conceded.

Away from the County Ground, Town have drawn their previous two games – 1-1 at AFC Bournemouth and 0-0 midweek at Leyton Orient – with a record of three wins, two draws and one defeat in six League One games; putting Swindon 4th in the away form guide.

11th placed Crawley are now seven points adrift of the play-offs following an inconsistent run of form. The Red Devils lost their last game 0-2 at Tranmere to make a run of three wins and three defeats in six.

As hosts, Crawley beat Colchester United 3-0 in their last game in West Sussex, however that was their only victory at the Broadfield Stadium in six matches.

The statistics show Crawley’s attacking edge, however, like Swindon, they fail to really capitalise on their many opportunities at goal.

The weaknesses within Crawley’s defence will give Town a lot of comfort they can be broken down as per the previous three meetings between the sides. Crawley are unable to prevent opponents from striking the target, which is all well and good against poorer attacking opposition, however Di Canio’s swift and direct style will continue to exploit the space on the counter.

SCORED 1-15 16-30 31-45 45+ 46-60 61-75 76-90 90+
Creepy (as hosts) 3  3 4 0 1 4 6 1
STFC (away) 2  4 5 0 2 2 2 0

Crawley have their strongest period during the final 15 minutes, whereas Swindon have typically been stronger starters early in away games.

CONCEDED 1-15 16-30 31-45 45+ 46-60 61-75 76-90 90+
Creepy (as hosts) 3 1 2 0 3 6 4 0
STFC (away) 3 4 2 0 0 1 0 1

With Crawley pressing towards the end of matches they also concede. A similar pattern is indicated for Swindon with fewer goals scored and conceded during the second half.

My prediction…

Another 3-0 to Swindon..? Perhaps not, but I certainly see Town coming away with a 2-0 victory in front of the TV cameras.

Come on You Reds!
