It’s Friday, so it must be time for the latest blog by BBC Devon’s Vic Morgan.

In this weird old season this week has been quite simply brilliant.

It began at Stevenage with one of the best Town displays of recent times. It continued with a fantastic cup tie against Aston Villa and I hope its concluded with an FA Cup victory over Macclesfield.

Amazing then that one comment comment off the back of a piece about Miles Storey being put on standby for an England team was described as “Boring”. I guess you can please some of the etc but some Swindon fans will NEVER be happy.

Lets start with Saturday at Stevenage. New ground of course for many and new league fixture. So that was something to look forward too. I think Town supporters were a little worried arriving at the stadium. There was talk of a weakened side and concentrating on the Villa game. That worry was somewhat heightened by the sight of Troy Archibald-Henville rather unceremoniously “chucking up” on the pitch during the warm up and apparent confusion about what may happen next.

Well what did happen next was breathtaking. From the off Swindon played Stevenage off their own pitch. John Bostock was sublime in midfield and long with Tommy Miller ran the show. Then there was a young man making his full début. Without wanting to bore you about Miles Storey this could be a player. Looked lively enthusiastic and as we’ve seen on his rare appearances in the first team full of pace. Took his goal beautifully too.

It was a terrific team performance and again Rafa DeVita deserves a mention because he is “Mr Dependable”. The mood on the supporters bus going away from the ground was of complete satisfaction. We’d ripped the side second in League One to pieces and now for the Villa.

Tuesday was one of those rare occasions when you see your team loose but aren’t too disappointed. It was a great night. Much praise has been heaped on the Town fans and rightly so. I was very proud of the support for the 19th minute round of applause for Stylian Petrov. The Villa player is battling a serious illness and club loyalties were put aside to back a person not a footballer a person in his hour of need. It was a great moment.

Not so great though the sight of bottles being thrown onto the pitch from the Town End. Not good not clever not brave. In fact downright dumb. No need for it.

That aside though a fantastic night. Super finishing from Villa the only difference. Swindon played superbly and Storey’s double was brilliant. The back heel flick for the second will live long in the memory.

It was a thrilling but ultimately unsuccessful comeback. It only made the few days between the Villa game at Saturday’s FA Cup tie a bit of a waste of time you just want to be back at the County Ground.

So are we seeing a repeat of last season? Well for a start we’re in a better shape in the league than we had been twelve months ago. Players are beginning to return from injury and I would say optimism is already returning. PDC looked back to his best on Tuesday after the game. That post match ritual which has been a bit subdued of late wasn’t withdrawn in any way. Even the Villa fans I spoke to after the game enjoyed it.

Yes it was a special night.

So to Saturday and Macclesfield. The game against Macc in the league at the County Ground last season was the one which convinced me that we would win the title. It turned out to be so. What Swindon side we see of course is up to the manager.

One thing I do know is that the crowd won’t be quite so big as the fourteen and a half thousand we saw in midweek. But please no talk of after the Lord Mayor’s Show. Lets create another cracking atmosphere and help the team into round two. I think we rather enjoy these cup runs don’t we?
