2011/12 Swindon Town Player of the Season Result
The votes have been counted and TheWashbag.com readers have voted Alan McCormack as our 2011/12 Swindon Town Player of the Season.
Who would’ve imagined back in July that the former Southend and Charlton Athletic midfielder would become arguably the most adept central defender in the division and secure a massive 46% of your vote to win the coveted Fraser Digby Tortoiseshell Comb Award. Only problem is Alan doesn’t need the comb… so you really should’ve voted for the coiffured Simon Ferry instead!

Alan typifies the contemporary centre back. He’s a player who offers much more than your traditional slow, hard as nails, tough tackler and header who would forget the ball is there to pass and create opportunities. Macca isn’t shy in the tackling department and has brought all his midfield qualities along with him in his journey backwards, enabling him to be a class apart, orchestrating proceedings from deep and seeking out whatever opportunities to surge forward with the ball glued to his feet.
A consistent and stand out performer all season, there’s little wonder McCormack has captured your imagination and won this award with such a significant proportion of the vote. You can read Adam Johnson’s review of Macca’s season here.
Our runner up is goalkeeper ‘Super’ Wes Foderingham with a sizeable 23% of the vote. Wes has been a revelation since he joined on loan, leaving many bemused that Crystal Palace would consider letting him leave so readily. This ‘keeper is more than a good shot stopper, Wes’s excellent technique in every situation, reflexes and distribution have won Town many points over his 40 games; picking up deserved League and Club clean sheet records on the way. Read Brendan Hobbs’ review of Wes’s time at STFC here.
Third is captain fantastic Paul Caddis with 16%. The Scot got my vote and I’m delighted a good number of you followed suit to recognise his herculean efforts down the right. His recent injury has proven how vital Caddis is to a successful Swindon under Di Canio’s system. Equally adept at both defending and attacking, his ability to beat his opponent and either cross or shoot has been our key asset with his partnership with Ritchie. To put it simply, Swindon just haven’t been the same when Caddis has been out of the side, he’s that integral – said Rosie MacGillvray.
Thank you all for voting!

Mac is a worthy winner, fantastic effort and application all season. I’m pleased all my tireless Wes campaigning got him second place, he certainly deserves it.
It shows how successful our season has been when four or five players could’ve realistically won the award…. Makes a huge change from last year when a ‘Worst Player of the Season’ award would’ve been more hotly contested.

My Congrats go to him. He did stand out for having a quality we lacked somewhat. Having said that, everyone has played their part in a very interesting and successful season. Roll on the next one!
