Factfile: Hugo Bargas

Hugo Christophe Bargas (born 22 October 1986 in Lyon) is a French / Argentine left footed striker and son of former Argintina International Ángel Bargas. Contrary to media reports Bargas no longer plays for De Graafschap in The Netherlands after he was released at the end of June.

With reports suggesting striker Bargas is heading for Town’s training camp in Italy, Hugo appears to have lost the chance to face Ajax for the Superboeren (Super Farmers) on the opening day of the Eredivisie and instead looks to secure a new club. If indeed he does join Swindon then he’ll be facing Crewe not Ajax on the opening day.

Bargas first arrived in the professional game in Argentina, scoring 4 goals in 20 appearances for All Boys in 2007/2008, as the Buenos Aires based club won the Primera B Metropolitana.

On 1st September 2008 he joined Dutch top tier side De Graafschap on a three year contract, it’s unclear whether a fee was paid. After only 3 appearances, in January Bargas was loaned to FC Zwolle until the end of the season.

Returning for the 2009/2010 season with De Graafschap now in the Dutch second tier, Bargas finished as top scorer in the Eerste divisie with 16 goals in 35 appearances, as the Super Farmers won the title.

Back in the Eredivisie De Graafschap managed to avoid relegation with a 14th placed finish, however Bargas struggled to make an impact, scoring just 6 goals. However he’ll always be remembered in Holland for his awful miss in a 0-0 draw at Vitesse.

And perhaps the greatest miss ever, let’s hope he doesn’t repeat this:
