Wilson’s unwelcome return to Sheffield

A Sheffield not United with the appointment of former Owl Danny Wilson

Sheffield United have experienced what could’ve happened at Swindon Town.

More than 400 Blades fans marched on Brammall Lane to protest at the appointment of former Town boss Danny Wilson. It wasn’t Wilson’s link with the Robins that led to this venting of fury, it was his history with Steel City rivals Wednesday that has generated a level of anger and vitriol never seen towards a Sheffield United manager and the club as a whole according to Ian at A United View.

Only a few weeks ago former Oxford United manager Graham Rix and player Jim Magilton were strongly linked with the Town post. Thankfully neither were seriously considered by interim Chairman Jeremy Wray so we never found ourselves gathering behind the Arkells Stand to protest in a similar manner.

Many Swindon fans, including myself, regret how it all turned sour under Wilson, however we have moved on. Now with the appointment of Paolo Di Canio I think we’re laughing all the way to promotion. I’d rather have Di Canio over Wilson any day…

I also see Wilson been given a 3 year contract. Whether he’ll see that out is another matter considering United Chairman Kevin McCabe has got through four managers in less than 12 months…
