Can Town improve away form in fight to avoid relegation?

Just over a week ago I posted an alternative form table for League One. The predicted points table is based on home and away form, ensuring this key variable is taken into account.

Then Swindon were 21st, having secured 1.11 points per game, equating to final point total of 49.83 when adjusted for home/away advantage.

G = Games, P = Points, P/G = Points per game, Pred = Predicted, OP/G = Overall points per game

This latest edition shows Swindon have lost further ground on those above, having lost 0.04 points per game and now are on-course to finish with 47.88 points.

Also Walsall and Dagenham & Redbridge have gained ground, with a more closely fought relegation battle now expected than what appeared a few weeks ago.

Recently Wilson has made it known that with the next three games to be played away from the County Ground this could play into our hands, allowing the team to perform better away from the baying home fans.

Judging by our away record so far, winning just 10 points at 0.77 points per game, this form is by far the worst in the league. There’s big room for improvement here, but can we really turn this awful away record around now? Well given there are 7 home games remaining compared to 10 away, I truly hope so!

As for the rest, the main movers for the final positions are Huddersfield into 2nd, MK Dons into the play-offs and Exeter dropping nearly 6 points in their predicted total with 2 recent home defeats.

    Whilst our home form is most concerning with 4/18 from last 6 games – equally worst shared with Dag&Red, it’s also difficult to see where our next away points are going to come from, with our away points attainment the worst in the league at the moment.

    Orient on a 9 game unbeaten run at home (last loss on day 6 against Huddersfield on Sep 11) will therefore provide some stiff opposition.

    Any point is better than no point, but at this stage picking up single points will not improve our position.

    I hope we can have a bit of a run and string together some back-to-back wins.

    I am unable to make it tonight, but hope the supporters are fully being the team and refrain from ‘Wilson out’ and ‘What -a-load-of-rubbish’ chants as we heard on Saturday. I am as critical as the next person, but am always fully behind the team that is picked to play on the day.
