Friday STFC Stat: Player Contribution
Time to delve into my statistics again.
I’ve been wondering how effective each player who has represented Town in the League so far has been, based on the end result. Stats have been recorded so far of all appearances and whether a player involved in a game has contributed to a win, draw or loss. The figures are sorted by the difference between the points won per game and points lost per game.
As these include all appearances they may be distorted somewhat by a late substitution, however I believe every player has the opportunity to influence the result no matter how little time they have on the pitch.
Only Kennedy, who has made just 3 appearances, comes out with a positive result! I’m surprised to see Sheehan contributing more than Rose to the overall result, although perhaps my view is distorted by Rose’s excellent free kicks.
Douglas and Prutton are equal and only just losing more than they win showing how invaluable these both are to securing the best results.
In recent weeks I’ve hardly been a vocal supporter of Pericard, however these stats show, statistically at least in this respect, he’s (marginally) the best forward at the club, contributing more than Austin to the overall result.
As for the Lucas versus Smith in goal debate, there is a marginal swing in favour of Lucas.
Austin is surprisingly low, although lest not forget he missed 3 victories (Walsall, Huddersfield and Rovers) with his shoulder injury.
I couldn’t agree more with O’Brien sitting bottom (excluding those playing 1 game). He surely has been the most ineffective player this season and rarely contributes anything positive to the result in his 9 appearances from the bench.
Updated: With change to Kennedy stats, although with his 1 win and 2 draws he’s the only Town player yet to suffer a league defeat this season.

Interesting, but since Kennedy played three games, that is nine points not six….makes a difference!!!

Good spot, I cocked that up. I’ll amend shortly 🙂

Amended table is up, it actually doesn’t make a difference as Kennedy is till top of the pile with an unbeaten season so far.
