We Started ‘Poor’ Last Season…
Well after the start we didn’t quite achieve promotion, but what we did achieve was exceeding many expectations and a season to remember…at least until Wembley!
Now 2010/2011 is still early with so much more to play for. After 13 games we are sitting a lowly 15th in the table with 16 points and closer to the relegation places (by 3 points) than the promotion contenders in the top 6 (by 4 points).
Does anyone remember last season? After the opening 5-0 defeat and a few wins, soon Town settled into a less than inspiring run with five 1-1 draws in six games. After 13 games Town were a respectable 7th with 19 points, but like today we felt disappointed by the start that should have yielded much more.
So with a marginal difference between the first 13 games and considering what we eventually achieved last year after a less than spectacular start, once the team were settled and Austin and Ward arrived, I remain nothing but hopeful for 2010/2011.
There is of course two differences between the starts; the number of goals scored and conceded. Last year we initially struggled in attack scoring just 14 goals with Ben Hutchinson upfront, Paynter confined to the bench and Austin yet to arrive, however in defence we were consistent and conceded 4 less than our current total of 21.
You don’t need me to go over our defensive problems yet again, what we really need to concentrate on is the quality of our attacking strength throughout the team and the manner of our recent spirit to at least get back into the Peterborough and Leyton Orient games. There’s light at the end of the tunnel if the inconsistency is finally resolved, plus a bit of luck wouldn’t go amiss.
November is the key month for both league and cup progression. Until that month is over I’m going to remain patient…
Get behind Wilson and the team. Come On You Reds!!
