Henshall for Man City?
The People has reported that the 16 year old Town promising left winger Alex Henshall is all set to join mega rich Manchester City.
With no confirmation from either club, perhaps the Man City rumour can be taken with a pinch of salt, however it is evident Henshall has decided his future is away from the club, with, as it seems, plenty of top clubs in the Premier League chasing the England U16 International.
Despite plenty of early season noises coming from both Wilson and Fitton about Henshall, including his appearance on the bench in the Johnstones Paint Trophy game at Exeter, little news has come out from Town in recent months to confirm or deny his future. Alex hasn’t, as expected, featured in the first team since an appearance on the bench away at Fulham in the FA Cup 3rd Round tie in January. But this could equally be down to Wilson rightly wanting to rely on experienced players in the promotion run-in, as all games have been crucial ties.
The recent announcement our our ‘link’ with Man City may indeed have been helped by our past record of producing quality young talent. The likes of Tozer, Jutkiewicz and Morrison have come through the ranks in recent years and made an impact on the first team. Henshall is perhaps the most promising player at Town in recent times that I can recall, so it is plausible that the Man City link may see more of our top talent being poached by the Eastlands club.
With many of the top clubs interested in Alex, it does seem a tough decision where to go as there are so many top academies and facilities. The benefit of a potential switch to Man City could be his return on loan to gain vital first team experience either next season or beyond, as our management convince the City hierarchy of the quality of training and guarantees of first team football at an ever improving and professional County Ground setup.
