Stephen Darby Joins Town
Finally after every other League One team has strengthened their squads with loan signings since the start of February, Danny Wilson has got his man as Stephen Darby has today joined Town on loan from Liverpool until the end of the season.
Darby has seen his first team opportunities limited at Liverpool this season, as is unfortunately the norm for many English youngsters in the Premier League.
Darby is strong competition for Kevin Amankwaah in the right back position, a position in which Town have limited options. Amankwaah was injured in the home game against Carlisle and was replaced by the unconvincing Douglas for the second half. Amanks has looked out of sorts and tired in recent games, so Darby joining is a welcome relief, particularly during this crucial run of games.
Will Darby start in place of Amankwaah at Brighton on Saturday? I would hope so as it could well be the change the team needs, as well as a surprise for our opponents. If not at least we have an excellent option on the bench, as something we have seriously been lacking is squad depth.
Seeing as Amankwaah came off injured last night, I’d say it’s a fair bet Darby will be starting on Saturday.
