Match Preview: Swindon vs AFC Wimbledon

Form… 5th placed Swindon have won three, drawn two and defeated once in our previous six League Two outings.

At the County Ground, Town are unbeaten in eight games, having won six and drawn two games. Town have won their previous two League Two games at home after beating Aldershot 2-0 and Morecambe 3-0.

17th placed AFC Wimbledon have been one of the division’s up and down sides. The Dons are currently winless in 11 League games following a 4 match unbeaten run in late September / early October that sent Wimbledon up to a high of 3rd. During this recent poor run for Terry Brown’s side, Wimbledon have drawn three and defeated eight times, including their current run of five defeats in a row.

On their travels the Dons have won twice, drawn once and defeated three times in their previous six League Two trips away, however they are winless in four games.

Swindon-Town-FC.co.uk Head-to-Head… In all competitions Swindon had faced Wimbledon FC on 10 occasions, winning 3, drawing 2 and suffering 5 defeats.

We’ve faced AFC Wimbledon twice this campaign with both matches finishing 1-1. The JPT encounter went to penalties when Town took a 3-1 victory after Phil Smith saved 3 of the 4 penalties he faced.

What The Stats Say… AFC Wimbledon are ranked 22nd in League Two according to our latest League Two efficiency rankings.

Our rankings show the Dons marginally more efficient on their travels with an away ranking of 19th, compared to 21st as hosts.

In away games, the key areas where Wimbledon have performed ‘well’ are: restricting their opponents to 46% shots on target (ranked 7th), saving 75% of shots faced (ranked 12th) and creating an average of 10 shots per game (ranked 10th).

The Dons have scored 11 goals on their travels, with 8 of those scored in the 30 minutes either side of half time, comprising 4 between 31-45 mins and another 4 in minutes 46-60 mins.

In defence, AFC Wimbledon have conceded 15 away, with 9 against in the first half. They’ve been most susceptible to conceding between 16-30 minutes when 4 goals have been scored by their opponents.

Of the 23 goals we’ve scored at the County Ground, 11 have come in the first half and 23 after the break. Our most dangerous period in matches in the the minutes leading up to the half time whistle with 6 scored between 31-45 minutes and 76-90 minutes.

Interestingly….Town have still yet to concede in time added on home or away this season…

Kickoff.co.uk Prediction…

My prediction… AFC Wimbledon have been on a slide for some weeks now and winless in eleven games. They travel to the County Ground which has become a fortress in League Two following an eight match unbeaten run, where just five goals have been conceded and none for four games. I’m going with the bookies on this one….a 2-0 Swindon Town victory.
