Town v Colchester

This afternoon Town were away at Colchester United in our first of two matches against fellow promotion contenders. Colchester had failed to win in eight games (since February) and have slipped out of the play-off places following Huddersfield’s mid-week win against Oldham. Wilson fielded a full strength and unchanged team following the Easter Monday comfortable 3-0 win over Tranmere Rovers. Importantly Town

League One Promotion Contenders

With an eleven point gap between Swindon and 7th place Colchester, even if worst came to the worst and Town were to lose on Saturday, I’m still feeling confident that a play-off place is all-but secured. Now then…a few weeks ago after our defeats to both Bristol Rovers and MK Dons, I had written-off any chance of Swindon fighting for

Town v Tranmere

It appears that relegation threatened Tranmere Rovers’ plan was to take 3 points from their games against Norwich and Swindon. We have Norwich and their 3-1 defeat on Friday evening to thank for Tranmere leaving themselves in Merseyside, as they didn’t compete in a largely disappointing encounter at the County Ground this afternoon. Town were grateful they weren’t pushed, having had a day less

Town v Southampton

I couldn’t get to the Southampton game last night, so a big thanks to Iain for this excellent write up. Town were at the MK Dons tonight.  A rearranged fixture from a snowy January.  One of our two games in hand along with a visit to Southampton next week. Wilson made two team changes with Morrison and Pericard in for Greer and Austin who drop to the bench. Morrisons mistake led to the opening goal after 90 seconds with Wilbraham taking the

Austin and England U21s

Surprise, surprise Charlie Austin hasn’t made it into the England U21 squad for the March 3rd game against Greece. The Adver speculated Austin may be called-up because Stuart Pearce (who lives locally) attended a game. U21 squad strikers are Andy Carroll (Newcastle Utd), Nathan Delfouneso (A Villa), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea) and Danny Welbeck (PNE / Man Utd). Full squad available

‘Good goals’?

In an interview on BBC Radio Kent, Gillingham manager Mark Stimson questioned the quality of Swindon’s goals on Saturday, stating his team had conceded “three not good goals”. The first goal, finished with good control, quick turn and low shot from Austin, capped a well worked move through the centre of the pitch. The second goal, a header by Cuthbert
