It was set up for an easy home win at Bramall Lane. A converted penalty in the first ten minutes and it looked like Sheffield United were on their way to collecting a regulation three points. But, hold on to your Wiltshire White Horses. The stats told the story of the game. Swindon dominated possession and pretty much the game.

New loan signing Michael Doughty was impressive and Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill secured a much deserved point with his first professional goal. It was a very good performance. The Town looked assured and their football, at times, was approaching the level of last season. It was also one of the best defensive displays of recent times. I think it’s fair to say that part of the game hasn’t been at it’s best of late. Not so at Bramall Lane though, solid and determined sums it up giving a platform for the rest of the team to perform.

Lots to be pleased about then for the travelling fans and there was a decent atmosphere on the supporters coaches. Talking of fans, the four hundred plus members of the Red and White Army were in great voice making their presence felt in a 19,000 plus crowd. Great effort.

So lots to be pleased about and an unbeaten 2016 so far.

That’ll be put to the test on Saturday though, when Barnsley come to the County Ground. Way back in the opening few weeks of the campaign, the Tykes handed out a bit of a thumping at Oakwell. Swindon took the lead but were on the end of a 4-1 scoreline. Not the best of afternoons. Recently the Yorkshire team have hit a bit of form, so we’ll get an idea of how good Swindon’s recent improvement is.

Thankfully we’re approaching the end of the quite ludicrous thing called the Transfer Window. It seems bizarre that for one month during the season, insanity seems to reign. I know it makes for amusing entertainment when people try to get on the Sky TV cameras on the crazy last night. Surely though there must be another way.

I know, why not let clubs get players all season until the third Thursday in March. Yes, that’s the way it used to be. I suppose the downside is that you’re in danger of losing your best players at any time.

Well maybe one way around it would be to stop any moves when the window closes in the summer. What you have at the start of the season is what you finish it with. The counter to that would be injuries can cause real problems and that squads need strengthening from time to time. Seems daft to me though, that we have this artificial craziness during August and January. Still Jim White appears to like it.

Obviously we don’t know what it might mean to Swindon yet. Hopefully Lawrence Vigouroux will follow in the boot straps of Wes Foderingham and make his loan signing permanent. Lawrence has the makings of a fine goalkeeper and would be a welcome addition.
