2012/13 Season: Hopes & Expectations – Christopher Panks

Throughout this week our writers reveal their hopes and expectations for Swindon Town in League One during 2012/13. Second up, our Podcast host Christopher Panks…

Hopes and expectations for the season: I’ll be fairly satisfied with a finish in the top half of the league, a top 10 finish would be seen as a good consolidation.

Signing of the summer: Troy Archibald-Henville. From what I have seen from him in the pre-season friendlies he looks like a fantastic acquisition. He’s strong, commanding in the air and aware, if he can retain his composure and improve his distribution when playing the ball forward he will be a class act.

It is no mean feat to displace Aden Flint in the centre of defence, but looks every bit the solid centre back and will contribute goals from set pieces. Great bit of business.

Who will be the key player for STFC in 2012/13 and why?: Wes Foderingham. The young goalkeeper’s performances last season were the difference between winning the league as Swindon did and finishing 7th. He kept a record number of 21 clean sheats in 32 appearances, 9 of which where Swindon won by one goal, ensuring that those games yeilded 27 points, rather than nine.

One big question will be how well he can step up to an arguably more physical league, particularly as he looked to struggle slightly against Chesterfield at Wembley.

STFC Predicted Final Position: 12th

League One Promoted: With the caveat that I haven’t researched this at all: Sheffield United, Preston NE and Doncaster

League One Relegated: Walsall, Crawley Town, Stevenage and Hartlepool.
