2012/13 Season: Hopes & Expectations – Adam Johnson

Throughout this week our writers reveal their hopes and expectations for Swindon Town in League One during 2012/13. First up, Adam Johnson…

Hopes and expectations for the season: To expect a promotion is certainly setting high goals of achievement. The side that has been assembled by Paolo Di Canio could achieve that through the playoffs but I’d be happy with us challenging up the right end of the table.

That doesn’t mean playoff contenders or I’d be disappointed but top half I’d say is the minimum with the money spent on wages and the players we have.

Signing of the summer: James Collins. He might play second fiddle to Benson and Williams this season but we could look back on this signing in years to come as crucial.

Last season we struggled for goals and hid it through our immaculate defence. This season, with the options available and this young Ireland under 21 international, goals won’t be an issue. I feel we could have a talent on our hands.

Who will be the key player for STFC in 2012/13 and why?: The last time we were in League One, we missed this man and I think League One will suit him perfectly. Simon Ferry was a great member of the playoff side and with us back in the third tier, he again could prove to be that spark in midfield. If we get the Simon Ferry of the Wilson playoff era, it could make a difference.

STFC Predicted Final Position: 8th

League One Promoted: Preston, Sheffield United and I hate to say, maybe it’s MK’s time.

League One Relegated: Yeovil, Bury, Portsmouth (if they make it to the time of this being posted) and…as a total random guess. I’ll go for Leyton Orient.
