Vote for your STFC Player of the Month for February

February has seen Swindon Town storm to the top of League Two and to Wembley thanks to an unbeaten month of six wins in a row, including that new club record of ten successive Football League victories.

There have been several standout performances in February. Wes Foderingham has pulled off some truly top class saves; Alan McCormack has continued his role as a rock of the defence; Luke Rooney has shone since joining from Gillingham; Paul Benson has scored five important goals and the right side combination of Ritchie and Caddis continues to impress…but who deserves your vote for the Player of the Month?

Vote by selecting your choice below before 9pm Thursday evening. The winner will be announced on Friday morning.

Tricky, why can’t there be a team option?! Anyway, Caddis pips the vote for me. Defence is solid, he isn’t afraid to go forward and he has great link up play with both Ferry and Ritchie. It also has to be partly down to him as captain to help PDC instill the spirit in the side that has been shown over the last couple of weeks. What a great time to be a Town fan. You Reds!

Rooney just takes it for me. He has just been unplayable at times. Against Shrewsbury and Burton he had 2 if not 3 players trying to close him down and he still rarely lost the ball. Crawley were just intent on trying to foul him and couldn’t get near him. And he just works for the team as well. I thought he was going to show up and only be interested in running with the ball but he works so hard to close down players, gets the tackles in and is more than happy to drop deep to help pass the ball out from the back.
What I love most this month though is even with all of that which he brings to the team Rooney still only just gets my vote over about half a dozen others. We’ve just been that good & consistent as a team.

I’ve gone for A Mac. He has been quality for months now and I could be wrong, but I don’t think he has been rewarded in any form this season.

So, he has just continued being great like every other month but deserves something.

Benson. I ummed and ahhhed about choosing Caddis, Ritchie, McCormack, Super Wes, all because of their week-in-week-out outstanding performances, but Benson pippied it for the month simply because of his goals. In him we have a striker who just happens to always be in the right place at the right time, and can put headers in the net with accomplished ease. He may not be flashy, but he gets the job done. Massive +1’s for those I’ve already mentioned, alongside Risser, who’s really settling in and starting to play superbly, and Rooney, who is simply going to terrify League 1 defences next season. Don’t forget Cibo either! Ahhhhh, too many choices!!!!!

Caddis is untouchable and we must keep hold of him when (not if) we go up. If it was an award for the most improved then step forward Mr Risser. Really want to give it to Wes but he is so good that now you just assume he will keep a clean sheet. As has been said above this team has so many strong players it is hard to pick one above the other. Got to be Caddis though. I reckon if any other league two team manager could pick one of the oppositions players to join their team most would choose Caddis.

There are many contenders for various reason, but the constant in the team for me has been:

    PAUL BENSON

His work-rate is second to none and he continues to run the channels, even in injury time with it, acknowledging his team-mates’ efforts – by his little ‘thumbs up’ – in supplying him with passes, crosses etc. But besides his work-rate, he has also managed to score a few in the process and with it reaching 100 professional goals. A great milestone for a great professional.
Not only that, off the field he has been articulate, always putting his team mates first in any interview I have heard.
Being awarded STFC Player of The Month would be a fitting recognition for his efforts towards the team’s success this month.

Went for McCormack, I was torn between him and Benson…. nice for it to be so tough though. The Player of the Year award is going to be super difficult to predict this year! Good times.

Gone for Alan Mc. It’s a tough job to pick PotM at the moment.

Right there Alan D_ – we’re really spoilt for choice. In fact any one of 7 or so players could be in the reckoning. What a team. What a season !
Almost impossible to pick one player, but I go for CADDIS (just)

Well if is was for most improved – that I agree with Dan, that would be Risser. PotM, well yes good things to say about Caddis, Ritchie, Alan Mc, Wes & Paul Benson, along with an improving Rooney and Allan C. But my PotM would be Simon Ferry, yes I know he missed a couple of game and didn’t it show on the pitch, what he does is not as flash and surging as some of the affore mentioned players so that he does is overlooked at times, without his hold up play, interplay quickness of vision allows the others to shine, the games without him all have struggled to get mommentum in their game, him coming on against the Shrews turned that game.
