Video of the Week: Swindon Town 2 Norwich City 0 – 23rd Feb 1988
The Full Members Cup was a cup competition held from 1985 to 1992 when English clubs were banned from European competition. It was also known under its sponsored names of the Simod Cup from 1987 to 1989 and the Zenith Data Systems Cup from 1989 to 1992
In the 1987/88 Simod Cup competition the Town beat Blackburn Rovers, Derby County and Chelsea to set up a Quarter Final with First Division Norwich City.
This superb 2-0 victory at the County Ground was thanks to an own goal by Shaun Elliott and a Steve Foley volley, which add to our victory over the Canaries in the FA Cup third round the previous month.
In the semi-final, Town faced Luton at Kenilworth Road, but failed to make it to Wembley after a late Mark Stein winner gave the Hatters a 2-1 victory after extra time. Luton were thrashed 4-1 by Reading in the final.
