Vic Morgan Blog: We are top of the League
The ramblings of BBC Devon’s Vic Morgan..
So then it has come to pass… A come from behind win on Tuesday night, put us back to the top of the table.
It’s been a long wait since the opening day of the season. You might remember, the sun shone, we won three-nil against Crewe, and we basked in the position of league leaders. Since then it’s been an amazing journey.
Defeat followed defeat, we dropped like a stone to second bottom. It looked like a long hard winter. Then all of a sudden PDC hit upon a settled defence, and the rest is history.

The character and determination of this side was shown against Shrewsbury. A dismal first half followed on from the hard won three points at Hereford. The Shrews looked a decent side, and the home work done by Graham Turner at the recent Barnet JPT tie seemed to pay off.
Swindon had a bit of luck, when the visitors may have felt they should have got a penalty. PDC made two crucial substitutions in Alan Connell and Simon Ferry, and the game changed round.
I was amazed to hear some booing on Tuesday, but I guess we’re setting high standards. Surely though, no need to boo at the moment. Enjoy Enjoy Enjoy.
So then, the real pleasure at looking at a league table the next day. I don’t know about you, but I gazed at it for ages just seeing what it looked like. Get used to it though, we’re there for the rest of the season.
As I said, a hard won three points at Edgar Street. Amazing atmosphere on the terrace. It’s great going to those grounds. You get the feeling of being in a proper football ground. You’re probably thinking I’m crazy, but watching football in the sixties and seventies was like that. We’re now used to all seater stadia, which can sometimes be a bit soulless. Not so Edgar Street, and we’ll miss those places that when they’re gone.
Earlier this week, I posed a genuine question on Twitter. Does anyone like Crawley FC..?
I wasn’t being provocative, I really wanted to know.
The answers came in thick and fast, and were pretty universal. NO, came the response. Although to be accurate, it was more the manager than the club, that brought the negativity. I suppose it’s how you approach the game.
As Town fans, we know that winning hasn’t been guaranteed, and that you take the rough with the smooth. Sometimes, like now, you can feel pretty confident in your team, but you must NEVER be over confident.
Those rough times are always just around the corner, and maybe the aforementioned club should remember that while trying to rub people up the wrong way. Football fans have long memories, and enjoy the fall that comes after the pride.
So to Saturday and Accrington then…keep it loud, keep it proud, keep it SWINDON.
Vic

That’s it Vic – Saturday and Accrington. But please PLEASE can I ask NO BOOING !!
Considering the excitement of this season it’s crass and embarrassing, and an insult to our club.
