Vic Morgan Blog: Congratulations…

BBC Radio Wiltshire commentator Vic Morgan continues his weekly blog only here on The Washbag.

Congratulations on several fronts…

First and foremost to Ron and his wife from the Washbag, for the safe delivery of Amélie. Football is important of course, but it’s things like the birth of a child that are the true magical moments of life. Many many congratulations.

Congratulations also to Swindon Town for the recent good run, and four successive clean sheets. More on the playing side later.

Now though congratulations for “THE WASHBAG” October player of the month.

It’s my great honour to be able to announce the top three(or four), so here we go….

I shall announce the results in reverse order, although you can read them in any order you wish..

4th with 9 per cent of the vote is Aden Flint, 2nd with 12 per cent, a tie between Paul Caddis and Simon Ferry….and in 1st place with a whopping 47 per cent, is on loan goalkeeper Wes Foderingham. So well done to Wes, who’s impressed many with his dominant displays between the sticks.

I’ve been comparing the arrival of Foderingham, and left back Liam Ridehalgh, as similar to that of Kenny Allen and Nicky Coleman in 1985-86. Allen a goalkeeper who added height and presence to the defense, and Millwall’s Coleman a steady left back adding solidity to that side of the pitch. I think Foderingham and Ridehalgh have made a tremendous contribution to the side. Wes doesn’t have Allen’s stature, but has been rock solid in all that he’s done.

It’s no coincidence that the clean sheets have all come with these two in the side, and that’s a great tribute to them.

So well done to WES FODERINGHAM, our October player of the month.

SO CLOSE….BUT THE GENERAL LACK OF A CIGAR….

Tough game wasn’t it..? Bradford City came with a plan, and it worked a treat. They played some decent stuff early on, and it looked like they might take an early lead through that bizarre free kick. The aforementioned Foderingham picked up a Flint backpass, and the Town had to face the free kick inside their own area. Suffice it to say, as often happens in this situation, the wall did its job, and the goal survived. Bradford had a player sent off, but really it was a game that won’t live long in the memory. It is the Town’s fourth clean sheet in a row, and that’s the first time that’s happened since 1992…quite rare.

Ten points out of twelve, that’s a pretty decent return from the last four games, and I wasn’t too unhappy on the journey back to Devon.

Funny isn’t it..? After the home draw against Hereford, spirits were down. This time though, relatively happy.

ALL WHITE ON THE NIGHT….

So it’s Huddersfield in the FA Cup at the County Ground. At one point it looked like we might be wearing white shirts because of a sponsorship deal. That would have allowed Huddersfield to wear their away kit which is red. Takes your mind back to the game against MK Dons a few years ago, we wore black, they wore red. Just in case this situation may arise again…..Swindon Town wear RED at home……thank goodness that’s the decision that’s been taken.

OFF TO BURSLEM…

If you’re looking for Port Vale on the map…it doesn’t exist.

Burslem will see an influx of hopeful Town supporters on Saturday, and I’m feeling pretty confident that we’ll get a decent result. The side looks solid, and very difficult to beat now on the road.

It’s not the most attractive of venues, but it’s football and that’s all that matters.

If you’re going Saturday, shout loud, if you’re not, then I’ll be part of the BBC Wiltshire team…and you can follow me on Twitter @swindonred.

KEEP IT LOUD KEEP IT PROUD KEEP IT SWINDON.

Vic
