Vic Morgan Blog: The Week That Was…
BBC Radio Wiltshire commentator Vic Morgan continues his weekly blog only here on The Washbag.
Well it was terrific wasn’t it..?
Another two wins, and two clean sheets. It was all played out against a very emotional backdrop, and it showed a club that’s 100 per cent together.
It all started last Saturday at Home Park.
One of the very rare occasions in a season, that my journey takes less than an hour. Lovely to see so many red and white scarves in cars travelling along the A38, and a feeling of real anticipation about the game.
Swindon’s win at Accrington, left me feeling very confident. That in itself is a rarity for a Town fan, I think you’ll agree.
The game against Plymouth was, for the most part, awful. Lots of misplaced passes, and precious little excitement.
That all changed in the last few minutes. Wes Foderingham made a terrific save, and Rafael De Vita scored a fantastic goal. To say it was out of place with the rest of the game, is an understatement. It was pure football, and a wonderful finish.
What really convinced me that the Paolo Di Canio era will be a success, came at the end of the game.
Few of us knew what had happened to the Town boss in the week. The players did, and to see them celebrate the goal, the win, and take Paolo to the fans, the way they did, was an incredible moment in Swindon’s history. I don’t think anyone who was there will forget it.
For any doubters among us, this was the time that we saw SWINDON TOWN.
It was amazing, and I don’t mind admitting, I was a little tearful describing it on BBC Wiltshire.
It was also the moment, that anyone doubting Paolo Di Canio’s dedication to the job, must surely have been convinced. It was not long after the game, that we found out Paolo’s father had passed away a few days before.
To have given as much as he did to the club in the circumstances was incredible. Our heartfelt best wishes go to the Di Canio Family at this difficult time.
Three days later Swindon were at it again.
I missed the game against Gillingham because of work. It meant a nervous evening following the scores in a variety of ways.
Anyone who follows me on Twitter would have seen my reaction when Matt Ritchie broke the deadlock. Absolutely terrific, and seeing the goal on TV later, what a shot. It was reminiscent of Kenny Stroud’s goal in the FA Cup, in the mid 1970’s. Jonathon Smith added a second with another great goal, and all of a sudden Swindon are in the play off positions with three wins in a row, and three clean sheets on the bounce.
It’s great being a Town fan at the moment, I can’t wait for each game. I’m sure there are disappointments to come, but right now my club feels in a good way. Everyone is pulling in the same direction, and you feel that everyone concerned is totally committed.
Bradford are the visitors Saturday, and I suppose the only thing to guard against is complacency. I CAN’T WAIT, I’M EXCITED and I’M VERY HAPPY WITH MY FOOTBALL CLUB….so there.
Follow me on Twitter @swindonred, and I’ll be on BBC Wiltshire this Saturday afternoon, hoping for another three points…
You don’t need telling do you..? KEEP IT LOUD, KEEP IT PROUD, KEEP IT SWINDON.
Vic
