Match Preview: Swindon at Plymouth Argyle

Form… Swindon travel to Plymouth on the back of only our second away victory in League Two.

Plymouth remain stuck to the basement of League Two despite a mini revival with a 2-2 draw with Accrington followed by a 3-2 win away at Dagenham last weekend. Unbeaten in two and a takeover in the offing, they are hardly the form team of the division but nonetheless its a massive improvement.

Swindon Team Speculation… Di Canio the tinkerman will rest assured…errr…tinker, chop and change his starting XI again.

To be fair, Paolo’s line ups are now getting more consistent as he finds his feet and players who are able to deliver for him. Regular starters Paul Caddis, Matt Ritchie and Raffa De Vita will play their 14th league games of the season.

It’s elsewhere that the side is more uncertain.

Will the defensive partnership of Aden Flint and Alan McCormack be given a second run out in the league?

Will Di Canio drop Jake Jervis or Christian Montano in favour of the returning Medhi Kerrouche?

Will Liam Ridehalgh retain his place at left back?

Plymouth Argyle Team Speculation… Teamtalk.com reports

Argyle have no new injury concerns as they look to lift themselves off the bottom of the Football League.

Defender Onismor Bhasera played an hour of a reserve team fixture against Dartmouth on Tuesday night following his recovery from knee ligament damage he suffered in March.

The Zimbabwean could make the Pilgrims’ squad after coming through the match unscathed.

Swindon-Town-FC.co.uk Head-to-Head… In Football League and major cups the sides have met 69 times with Swindon winning a lowly 21 games, drawing 12 and defeated 36 times.

Away at Home Park our record is overall record is awful. Of the 36 matches played, Swindon have won 6, drawn 6 and lost 24.

The recent away record is patchy. Narrow 1-0 defeats and draws are sandwiched between two 4-0 victories for Town. Previous to a 4-0 victory in the FA Cup 1st Round last season, Town won by the same scoreline in October 1991 when Swindon Legend Duncan Shearer scored all 4 goals.

What the Stats Tell Us… At Home Park Plymouth Argyle have conceded 11 goals, but only 2 have been let in during the first half. This mirrors Plymouth overall pattern of conceding goals with 80% of their goals against coming in the second 45.

As for Swindon the pattern is now fairly equal before and following the break, but Town are most dangerous in the 15 minutes before half and full time.

Kickoff.co.uk Prediction…

% Chance of Full Time Result: Swindon win: 57% | Plymouth win: 17% | Draw: 26%

% Chance of Scoreline: Plymouth 0 Swindon 1: 16% | Plymouth 0 Swindon 2: 12% | Plymouth 1 Swindon 1: 12% | Plymouth 1 Swindon 0: 8%

My prediction… Before the trip to Accrington I wanted 4 points from these two away matches. So after a win in Lancashire last weekend a draw in Devon against an improving Argyle would be a likely result.
