Vic Morgan Blog: Feeling Bullish…

BBC Radio Wiltshire commentator Vic Morgan continues his weekly blog only here on The Washbag.

So then it was going to be easy wasn’t it..?

Turn up Saturday afternoon, knock in a few goals, add three three points to the tally.

I guess that’s what many thought last weekend, when struggling Hereford visited the County Ground. That feeling grew at half time, with the Town 2-0 up.

I think the overall impression was, just how many goals would Swindon get in the second half playing towards the Town End. Sadly, as is often the case, it didn’t turn out like that. A former Swindon Town triallist named Arquin, was on the score sheet as Hereford pulled themselves level.

However, surely the points were safe, when Simon Ferry put us back in front with his first of the season…? Well for me the player that made the difference, Harry Pell, got the equaliser, and Swindon were left to rue not taking advantage of their first half dominance.

Reflecting on the way home to Devon, you couldn’t deny Hereford their point. But you could bemoan Swindon’s lack of a killer instinct, when the visitors were on the ropes.

While feeling down about Swindon dropping two points, we should also say well done to Hereford. The Bulls lived up to their nickname in that second half, and I hope that means a climb up the table for Jamie Pitman’s team.

ANOTHER BUSY DAY…

As Paolo adds more players to his squad. Cristian Montano looks an exciting winger, and Wes Foderingham, will probably cover Phil Smith’s injury absence. The one thing you can’t level against Swindon, is the lack of wide players on the left hand side. Quite where this leaves the rest of the squad who play in that position, I don’t know. That’s for the manager to decide, but Montano does look a quality signing. We’ll see how it all comes together, but one thing’s for sure there’s no lack of selection options for the Town boss.

Both will probably, if signed in time time, feature at Accrington Stanley. So they’ve a lot to take in over the next couple of days. By the way, Foderingham is going to take some fitting on to the back of a shirt…

GREAT PERFORMANCE….

By the manager in the Swindon half marathon. Having done quite a few races at that distance myself, I can tell you it’s quite a feat. Apparently it was a mistake and he went the wrong way. Well it says a lot for his fitness, that he completed the course, and does that mean that he could actually still play 90 minutes..? To have the stamina to run 13 miles is one thing, but it’s the twisting, turning, sprinting etc, which can take its toll in a game. I remember John Trollope running the Swindon Marathon some years ago, in fact that inspired me to run the same event twelve months later. I’m running the Swindon 10k in November, although a calf strain picked up last weekend, has hampered my draconian training regime…got any chips ?

OOP NORTH…

This weekend then. Looking forward to an early start, after a Late Show the night before. Stanley is one of those sides that we haven’t beaten away since they came back into league, I think it was Jerel Ifil who scored there for Swindon on our previous visit. An open terrace if memory serves, so I hope it doesn’t rain. Mind you, for those chips I mentioned, there’s not a bad dispenser of those potato based food items, not far from the ground.

Don’t forget if you’re not going, you can listen to the game on BBC Wiltshire, and you can also follow me on Twitter @swindonred.

Keep it loud, keep it proud, keep it SWINDON.

Thanks Vic for another great blog.

My mate from Hereford sat with me for the game and I remember saying to him at half time we were going to win 4 or 5 nil. Needless to say he had the last laugh and deservedly so in the end. If only you could mix Swindon’s style with Hereford’s fight and you’d have a table topping side.
