Factfile: Adam Birchall
This weekend Conference South outfit Dover Athletic confirmed they’ve accepted two “significant undisclosed” bids from Swindon Town and AFC Wimbledon for their star striker Adam Birchall. This follows Dover rejecting advances from Newport County earlier in the week and a derisory offer from Gillingham on Friday.
Birchall is eager to resurrect his Football League career and has a short time to decide whether his future lies with Paolo or Dons manager Terry Brown.
Adam Birchall signed a two-year contract at Crabble in July 2009, having been released by Barnet earlier in the summer. Adam played at Barnet with recent Town signing Joe Devera from 2006 to 2009.
In total Adam played more than 150 games in the Football League for Wycombe Wanderers (on-loan), Mansfield Town and Barnet following his release from Arsenal.
Early in his career Adam represented Wales under-21 12 times, scoring on his debut against Finland U-21 and then adding another 2 goals to his international tally.
Dropping out of the Football League to Dover in Conference South, the striker has proved to be one of non-league football’s hottest properties during the past two seasons. Scoring 64 goals in 78 appearances, including 34 during the last campaign, plus 11 in their FA Cup run to the 3rd Round, has made Adam the club’s record goalscorer and brought him to the attention of numerous Football League clubs. However Dover’s reported £250,000 price tag has put off many potential suitors.
If Birchall does don the Red & White at The County Ground there’s no better pedigree deserving of our shirt following his 30-yard screamer in front of the Rainham End, knocked a humiliated Gillingham out of the FA Cup 1st Round last season.
As Town look likely beat Gillingham to Birchall’s signature not only will this teach the Kent club how to be professional in their transfer offers, but this will not be the only time this season we’ll get one over the Gills.

Oh how we drew you in like a moth to a flame. Good ‘ol carrot crunchers. We knew Dover Pathetic would double any price we offered, so we go in with a ridiculous offer, which wakes up you lot and the Wombles, we find out exactly what the price really is, then come back and say thank you very much for working for us. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Losers. A bit like you will be this year. And that, worzels, is how you conduct business.
