2010 STFC Review: January
And what a year it has been!
A year of the proverbial two halves. After spending January to May fighting for promotion, Town now find themselves looking up and down, more than touching distance away from mounting a real promotion challenge.
January
2010 started with around 6,000 Town fans travelling to Fulham for the FA Cup 3rd Round tie and created a truly fantastic atmosphere. The players were more than a match for the Premier League opposition and only narrowly lost out in a 1-0 defeat to an early Bobby Zamora goal.
I think that it was at the Fulham trip that I decided to start writing a blog. Now a year later I’ve surprised myself, and others, by keeping it going!
The FA Cup exit was followed by 3 league victories against Gillingham, Stockport and then against Leeds.
Town finished 3-0 winners in a memorable rearranged home game against Leeds United at The County Ground with goals from Austin and Paynter.
It was post match, in one of my first blog posts, that I first started to believe we actually might be in with a shout for promotion and challenged Wilson and the squad to make that a reality.
Jubilation turned to despair as we were brought back down to earth only 4 days later as Town conceded 2 late goals to draw 2-2 at Southend United.
Still…Town were now unbeaten in 7 games.
