Blue-Moonrakers?
Play-Off bound Swindon chairman Andrew Fitton and Manager Danny Wilson must be praised for their loan strategy this season. All loan signings with the exception of Ben Hutchinson have shone in the first team. The quality of the loans are an integral reason why with 3 games to go we are firmly in the race for promotion, having secured at least a place in the play-offs following Southampton’s 0-0 draw of their game in hand last night.
It has been many years since Town were able to get the big clubs to agree to send their youngsters out to Town, probably the last time this occurred was in Andy King’s days through his good links with Manchester United.
On BBC Wiltshire on Saturday Fitton announced he has been further expanding our relationship with some of the elite British clubs following meetings with Celtic and Manchester City. The potential City link, could, if exploited, offer Town a fantastic opportunity to bring City reserve and youth players to the County Ground. Of course, City are still at an early stage of their ongoing project of world domination and whilst over the past 18 months they have concentrated on the big signings such as Tevez and Robinho, they are have an ever expanding youth setup with many players desperate for vital first team experience. Town now offer players experience at a stable and forward thinking club.
So Fitton says, “I think there will be some interesting things to come out of our relationship with Manchester City next year”. Could this mean City will farm out Robinho to Town after he returns from Santos? 😉
