Rampant Rovers

Yesterday we were promised the bragging rights to banish the memory of the 3-0 defeat against Bristol Rovers at the Memorial earlier this season.  However, our 4-0 home defeat shows you can take nothing for granted and, when Swindon lose this season they surely know how to do it in style.

To say Swindon played poorly would be very disrespectful to a good Rovers side who certainly knew how to thwart our wing play, exploit the counter-attack to perfection and demonstrated how to take full advanatge of every strike on goal.

Town dominated the early play, but the player’s heads went down after conceding the first goal from Kuffour after 25 minutes.  From that point onwards the defence knew they couldn’t cope with the Rovers counter attack and front two of Kuffour and Heffernan.

Despite being down 3-0 at half time, Wilson made no changes in either substitutes or tactics.  A sure sign he had given up all hope at half time.

This negative attitude certainly rubbed off on the players who failed to deliver in the second half when playing against a defensive Rovers with a wall of 9 players constantly closing down the space.

With our wingers largely ineffective, I wondered why Ward wasn’t moved to a more central position or replaced with Pericard sooner as part of chasing the game, playing 3 up-front?

Wilson just stuck with the same tactics which Rovers had been expecting and had the game-plan well thought-out.

I’m surprised Wilson didn’t learn from the Memorial Ground defeat.
