7 Team Race?
Town have won 6 points against Carlisle and Stockport to further cement our play-off position. It’s a sign of the times and new found quality that we won these games despite not playing at their best. Both games were the proverbial “banana skins” against lower placed teams, where in previous seasons, Town would have probably dropped points.
With MK Dons loosing last night the top seven teams are now firmly establishing themselves as the promotion contenders.
A six point gap now exists between Millwall on 55 points, who were 3-1 victors against the Dons, who are in 8th position with 49 points.
Also, now surely the chasing pack of Bristol Rovers, Walsall and Southampton are too far behind to make any impact on the play-offs.
Of the top 7 teams, Swindon have 3 games against fellow promotion contenders, whereas Norwich play 4, Leeds play 5, Colchester play 3, Charlton play 5, Huddersfield play 5 and Millwall play 5. Therefore, perhaps Swindon and Colchester have the ‘easiest’ run-in?
Of course, Swindon play Millwall at the New Den on the final game of the season. But I’m sure both teams won’t want to leave determining final league positions until that game. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes down to the end!
