Curse of the Manager of the Month?
With Danny Wilson today being nominated for the January League One Manager of the Month, it is often said that winning this award often sees the manager loosing the next match and / or suffering a dip in team form.
Is the suspected curse active this season?
Phil Parkinson (Charlton Athletic) won the August award. Charlton went unbeaten in September winning 2 and drawing 2.
Paul Trollope won in September. Bristol Rovers then lost all 5 league games in October.
Kenny Jackett won the October award. Millwall won only 1, drew 2 and lost 2 in November.
Lee Clark won the November award. Huddersfield won 2, drew 2 and lost 1 in December.
And finally, Paul Lambert won in December. Norwich then went unbeaten in January winning all 6 games.
Bristol Rovers supporters will perhaps have a claim for thinking the manager of the month affected their performance in October, however if their recent form is anything to go by, then it seems that September itself was the exception to the rule.
As for Wilson’s chances of the award. Despite the solid unbeaten month in the league, winning 3 against Gillingham, Stockport and Leeds and drawing away at Southend, I’m going to have to admit Paul Lambert deserves the award for winning every game in January and taking Norwich top of the league.
I’d rather Danny Wilson and his squad be rewarded at the end of the season for their efforts. Or am I starting to get carried away!
