In the Radio Wiltshire phone-in this evening, Danny Wilson commented on the lack of transfer activity at Town during the January transfer window.

Only Vincent Pericard has signed, with Danny Ward, Simon Ferry and Alan Sheehan’s loans extended to the end of the season.

Wilson confirmed he couldn’t bring in a “quality of player” and so didn’t make a hasty move for further loan or permanent signings.

This is a sign of the clear difference between Malpas and Wilson.

Malpas was quick to sign Casal for near £100,000, jumping at the chance to spend some money without in-depth research other than some Youtube videos.  Casal turned out to be one of the worst Swindon players for many years after making just 6 first team appearances.

Wilson has slowly developed his squad, uses loans effectively and will wait for the right player.

Although, if we weren’t currently sitting in the play-off positions with games in hand, the situation this January could well have turned out very differently.
