Peacock joins Grimsby

Lee Peacock has today signed for Grimsby Town.  The League Two side currently sit in 23rd place with 19 points, 6 points adrift of Cheltenham and perhaps a certainty for Conference football next season along-with Darlington.

The move doesn’t come as a surprise.  Peacock has not been able to force his way back into the first team after some lengthy spells out with injuries over the past 2 seasons.  This season he has been limited to reserve games and the occasional substitute appearance.

Whilst he always gives his all and no Town fan would question his determination and teamwork, the injuries and age (now 33) mean he has looked very out-of-sorts in his 4 substitute appearances this season,  in a much fitter and technically superior squad.

Peacock has been given a 18 month contract until the end of the 2010/2011 season.  A good deal for an injury prone ageing midfielder come striker in the twilight of his career.

Of the first team players remaining from League Tww football in 2006/2007, only Phil Smith and Michael Timlin still remain.  Both are also fringe players and likely to leave the County Ground for regular first team football at the end of the season.
