Leeds – Only here to see the Town!

On approaching the County Ground this evening all that I could hear from the Leeds United fans getting off the coaches on County Road was “only here to see the Leeds!”.

I thought they may have a point.  A capacity crowd was expected and where do all these fans come from?

Needless to say, we had the last laugh.  The tables and chant were turned on the departing Leeds supporters, leaving the Stratton Bank with 25 minutes remaining after Paynter scored from the spot.

Even though we were three nil up, given our knack for conceding late on, it remained a nervous finish.  Leeds were still threatening and in successive corners forced a great save from Lucas and then hit the bar.

Town remained counter attacking and taking advantage of the many Leeds defensive lapses.  Another goal or two could easily have been had, except for Paynter who really needs to practice his one-on-ones.  All credit must also go to Ankergren in the Leeds goal who stopped a long range JP effort in the first half and a shot from Ward late-on.

This was one of our games in hand and thanks to this unbeaten run we’ve now pulled clear of Huddersfield who are just outside the play-offs in 7th place.  Also the goal difference is starting to look a bit better, at last!

The club staff have recently started being more vocal about aiming for that play-off finish.  Now after tonight’s result, they have given some substance to that raised expectation, showing they can beat and (hopefully) catch those teams above.
