It’s Friday, so it must be time for the latest blog by BBC Devon’s Vic Morgan.

Picture the scene. Four people gather to record the latest “Washbag” podcast, reflect on a decent game against Coventry and discuss the financial implications of a transfer embargo. All pretty smooth sailing then. Looking forward to a week without football and a chance to gather thoughts before the visit of Scunthorpe at the weekend.

Well a quiet week is not quite how it’s turned out is it? More on that in a moment after a couple of reflections on the game against the Sky Blues.

First, Coventry looked a very good side when they eased into two-nil lead. Its fair to say we should have been in front in the first minute when Matt Ritchie’s header missed by a whisker and Swindon played some decent football early on. But Cov took control and slack marking at set pieces allowed them a grip on the game.

I suppose the game changer was the injury to John Fleck. An innocent looking incident saw him leave the field with what turned out to be a cracked skull. Obviously we wish him well in his recovery. The loss of the player who’d directed the visitors traffic was a big factor in the remainder of the game and another game changer came from the Swindon dug out.

Don’t know about you but I definitely heard a collective sucking in of breath when Ritchie was substituted. There was a felling of what on earth is going on here and can this possibly be happening.
It was a change of tactic by PDC which worked beautifully and the Town came roaring back. Having been resigned to another home defeat I left thinking we should have won. Good game, both sides will be “up there” this season.

And so to Meltdown Monday. Woke up feeling a little stiff after running the Swindon Half Marathon and looking forward to a relaxing morning. Shouldn’t have turned on my lap top. “Chairman removed”, “New man installed”, “Doubts over managers future”. The headlines came screaming out at me.

The change at the top is something that I doubt anyone saw coming. Jeremy Wray proved a popular chair and seemed to be guiding the club in the right direction. All of a sudden he was gone and Sir William Patey was the man at the helm.

Being a Town fan your first reaction is to panic and think its the end of the world as we know it. Surely the club is about to fold and the manager is going to leave. Those are the thoughts that go through your head when you read the news. Then you start to think about it for a moment.

The new man is responsible for pushing ahead with ground redevelopment and look for INCREASED investment. Sir William has impeccable credentials diplomatically and seems well respected in the financial market.

I can’t see any reason to panic there.

We’ve lost a chairman who did a great job. Built bridges between the fans and the club and brought in a manager that’s proved to be a pied piper to us long suffering supporters. For that, Mr. Wray’s tenure will be seen as one of the best and for that we thank him.

Now, though, it seems the money men want to move up a notch and feel that Sir William is the man to do that. I hope he is because there’s never been a time when Swindon’s followers have felt so optimistic and I hope that continues for a long long time.

Mind you, bearing in mind what happened after we recorded the podcast, I’m a little worried about what may happen once this blog has appeared.

To Saturday then and thankfully football. The names Prutton, Kennedy, Grella and Clarke, may well appear in the Scunny line-up. Should be a very interesting afternoon. Just be prepared to stay on afterwards for any unrehearsed sit ins that may occur.
