Throughout this week our writers reveal their hopes and expectations for Swindon Town in League One during 2012/13. Next up, Matt Davies…
Hopes and expectations for the season: In my opinion a successful season would be a play-off place, despite this I do think that promotion is a realistic aim as the club has considerable momentum at the moment.
Signing of the summer: The clubs most impressive signing has to be Gary Roberts. The former Huddersfield man has already proven himself at League One level and many believe that he could easily make the grade in the Championship. He also knows what it takes to win promotion.
Who will be the key player for STFC in 12/13 and why? Wes Foderingham. If he can perform anywhere near the standard he did last season we will stand a good chance. Obviously last season he benefitted massively from having a solid defense in front of him. He will have to do more this season as we are playing teams of a higher standard, but I don’t think that will phase him.
STFC Predicted Finish: I predict a top three finish for Town, I don’t believe that the League is as strong as it has been, without the likes of Southampton, Norwich, Charlton. Which provides a perfect opportunity for us to progress to the Championship
League One Promoted: Swindon Town, I genuinely believe that we have a great chance of a double promotion. The club has spent money on some great players and we have great momentum going into the start of the season, but only time will tell.
MK Dons, have suffered play off heart-ache and I think they will finally get promotion, they are my tip to go up as champions as they have added the well known Alan Smith to their squad which can’t do them any damage. Taking the final slot will be Preston North End.
League One Relegated: Leyton Orient look like they will struggle to me, they had a tough season last year finishing one place above the drop.
Portsmouth are my second tip, with only youth players and free agents on their books they really are in a big hole, add to that their points deduction and I would be surprised if they avoided the drop.
Yeovil are my final prediction, with them struggling last year and the loss of their top scorer to a certain Swindon Town, I think they will find it difficult this season.
