Here We Go Again

Now the new Football League season is well and truly upon us, as the fixtures have been published this morning.

With my season ticket already purchased some time ago, I was always eagerly awaiting today’s announcement, to workout what I’m doing every weekend from August to May!

It is a big year for me as I’m getting married and the wedding is fast approaching on September 18th, which is now only 3 months and a day away. So with 3 or 4 weekends commitments including the stag weekend, wedding and honeymoon during the early part of the season, there always remained the distinct possibility I was going to miss at least three Town home games.

Fortunately I’m very relived, as without any lobbying of the Football League to influence the fixtures, it looks like I’m just going to miss the September 25th home game against Huddersfield as I will be in Morocco. I should be back in time, volcanic ash pending, for the Plymouth game on the 28th September. The two away games I will miss are against Hartlepool (14th August) and Walsall (18th September). These aren’t particularly attractive games to go to, so I think I’ve been very lucky with how it has all panned out as it could have been a lot worse.

Our npower League One fixtures have thrown up some interesting dates and encounters.

September is the proverbial ‘month of death’ with potentially tricky away trips to Carlisle and Walsall and home games against fellow promotion contenders Southampton, Huddersfield and Plymouth.

Charlton is at home is on a Tuesday night in November, so expect a great weeknight atmosphere at the County Ground to spur Town on.

I always thought Boxing Day was a local tie, but for some reason instead of a game against Yeovil or AFC Bournemouth we are away at Exeter City.

A group of very tough away games in a row await Town in February and March, including trips to Southampton who will be eager for revenge, Plymouth, Huddersfield and Brighton.

A trip to Hillsborough on Easter Monday to follow Town against Sheffield Wednesday will be a great way to finish the weekend.

Finally we finish the season against Tranmere away on 7th May. Tempting fate…a promotion party… anyone?
